This area located in Northeast Tucson is surrounded by the Santa Catalina Mountains. The Canyons below provide a private, beautiful area to relax and enjoy all that Tucson has to offer. There are well over 20 luxury subdivisions in Catalina Foothills. Each subdivision has it’s own unique set of benefits. Some are gated communities, some golf communities, exclusive luxury properties as well as non gated properties.
One of the most popular of these areas within Catalina Foothills is Ventana Canyon. Perhaps of all areas within Catalina Foothills, Ventana Canyon has received enormous amounts of attention for its golf, hiking, resort living, and relaxation.
Ventana Canyon Resorts

Loews Ventana Canyon Resort is a Conde’ Nast recommendation… and in high demand. It also offers golf and tennis in conjunction with the Ventana Golf and Racquet Club
While golf, tennis, and resort living brings many visitors to Tucson, it also is right in the middle of amazing hiking opportunities!
Ventana Canyon Hiking
Some quick things you ought to know about the Ventana Canyon Hiking Trail. It is a 6.4 mile long trail that begins at Kolb Road and North Resort Drive. Parking is easily found behind Loews Ventana Canyon Resort. It is a medium to difficult trail that isn’t suitable for small children or pets. The best time to visit and hike this trail is between September and early April. One can even see Bighorn Sheep in this area as they are protected and often seen!
Two points to see along the Ventana Canyon Hiking Trail is the Maiden Pools, and Window Rock. Approximately 2 miles in on the trail, you will arrive to the Maiden Pools. Over the centuries, water from the Ventana stream has smoothed and carved out small pools in the granite of the mountains. It is a peaceful and beautiful place to rest and reflect. In the spring, there is often water, and beautiful flowers along the way.
Just over 4 miles along the trail, you will begin to see Window Rock on the right. Window Rock is approximately 25 feet by 15 feet in size, making this one of the largest naturally occuring “windows” in the world. Ventana, is Window in Spanish, from which Ventana Canyon gets its name.
The trail ends 5.2 miles in, at Esperero Canyon, where you can hike the rest of the way to Window Rock.
Ventana Canyon Homes
One of the greatest benefits of trying to find a luxury homes in the Catalina Foothills is that Ventana Canyon has so much to offer! The housing in this valley is just as diverse as the small canyon it is located in!
A recent search on the Tucson Multiple Listing Service showed that there were properties from as low as $112,000 USD for a 700 sf condo, to as much as nearly $10M USD for a large estate with multiple buildings.
“An interesting factoid for the car lovers out there… according to the US Census Bureau data, 2% of the people who reside in this area own FIVE or MORE cars!”
At the time of this post, (and our market has remained fairly stable) the average days on market of sold property is only 48 days. This indicates a very healthy market of homes selling, and being sold.
Of those homes being sold, Condos and Townhouses are more frequently sold in this area than Single Family Residences (although not by a large percentage.)
Some of the most popular condos are found at The Veranda at Ventana Condominiums. These are very popular because they are smaller, and not as expensive. These oftentimes are popular amongst those who are looking to just have a small condo here in Tucson for the Winter, or the golfing. These condominiums vary in price, but are rarely above $200,000 USD at this time.
Another popular area in Ventana Canyon are the Townhomes found at Ventana Canyon Golf Villas . These villas are absolutely stunning homes built with soaring ceilings, great views, and amazing privacy.
